Inexpensive DIY Creative Wall Covering Ideas
Get an artistic, creative wall covering that’s relatively inexpensive by thinking outside the box.
If your bank account is dry and your walls are bare, you may have to get a little creative to come up with an artsy wall covering. However, you don’t need to be an expert artist to create something artistic, nor does it have to be expensive. Gather items from around you home, or purchase a few simple, inexpensive materials from a local art or craft supply store in order to create one-of-a-kind wall art. Here are some creative wall covering ideas for you to consider.
1. Fabric Canvas Art
Cover basic art canvas with a stylish fabric of your choosing. Attach the fabric onto the canvas with a staple gun. Begin by stapling the edge of the fabric along the top across the back side of the canvas. Next, stretch the fabric down towards the bottom of the canvas. Stretch the bottom edge of the fabric around to the back side of the canvas rather tightly and secure it with several staples. Repeat the process on either side. Ideally, it should be free from any wrinkles or bumps. Hang your new art work on a wall, prop it on an easel, or simply lean it against the wall. Make several of them and make a collage out of an entire wall.
2. Canvas Color Blocks
Go to your local craft or art supply store and buy four small canvases of your choice. Pick a color scheme that complements your room. Using a sponge brush and various acrylic paints, start painting the canvases using different colors and patterns in a unique style. Be sure to paint all the sides of each canvas as well. Apply a second coat if necessary once the first coat has completely dried. Once all four canvases are thoroughly dry, hang them on the wall in a square formation, horizontally, vertically, or in a random pattern. Hanging them vertically will draw the eye up and make the ceiling appear higher.
3. Vintage Art Gallery
Create your own art gallery with a vintage classical feel by framing stylish decorative craft paper in traditional gold and silver frames. Buy the craft paper at your local craft or art store, or simply use old wrapping paper or leftover wallpaper as a good alternative. Purchase unique, relatively inexpensive frames from a thrift store or local sale. Hang as many of the frames as you like either in a hallway or along an expansive wall to create a one-of-a-kind look.
4. Framed Leaves
This special wall covering is perfect for autumn decorating. Take a walk outside and gather some interesting leaves with a variety of brilliant colors and shapes. Next, lay them flat in between a couple sheets of paper and press them inside a book for about a week. Remove them and carefully place them on a sheet of decorative craft paper and simply frame them; or, you could choose to spray them any color you like – silver and gold are both great choices for the holiday season. Frame as many as you wish in attractive frames and hang them in a casual family room, horizontally above your bed, or even in the kitchen. Depending on the style of frames and color, they can go virtually anywhere.
Use any one of these unique wall covering ideas to create distinct artwork that no one else will have, or could possible replicate.
